Coming soonWhat we are building next.
Nine things, from a working cafe to a recording studio to a garden. We would rather tell you what is coming than pretend it already exists.
Why we publish this
A provider that promises everything is telling you nothing.
Plenty of agency websites list services they cannot actually staff. Families find out three phone calls later, having lost weeks.
So this page draws a hard line. Our four authorized services are running today. The Community Participation & Training Center is in development, with licensing and zoning underway. Everything on this page sits further out still, beyond the Training Center.
The Family Circle Cafe.
Our longer-term ambition is a working cafe open to the public, staffed by the people we support: a counter that opens in the morning and a till that balances at the end of the day.
This is an aspiration, not a current or approved plan. The first step toward it is the Hospitality & Cafe Training area inside the Community Participation & Training Center, which is a simulated training environment rather than a public cafe.
- Hospitality and front of house
- Food preparation and kitchen safety
- Customer service and communication
- Money handling, tills and reconciliation
- Real workplace habits, eventually in a real workplace
Also in development
Eight more, each with a job to do.
Nothing on this list is decoration. Every one of them exists to build a specific skill, a specific relationship, or a specific route into work.
Music and recording studio
Music, podcasting and performing arts in a proper studio. For people with limited speech it is often the first room where communication stops being difficult, and confidence built at a microphone travels everywhere else.
An expanded Vet Fixer Marketplace
A bigger space for participants to display and sell the crafts, products and artwork they make, with pricing, packaging and selling handled by the makers themselves. Making something people want to buy changes how a person sees themselves.
Community garden and wellness program
Gardening, healthy living, time outdoors and the particular satisfaction of being responsible for something that will die if you forget it. Food grown here goes straight into the cafe kitchen.
Career readiness and employment partnerships
More partnerships with local businesses covering job exploration, internships, volunteering and supported employment. The aim is a paid job for anyone who wants one, not a permanent placement in a program.
Continuing education workshops
Technology, financial literacy, communication, entrepreneurship, safety and independent living. Short, practical courses that people opt into because they want the skill, not because it fills a timetable.
Volunteer and mentorship program
Connecting participants with veterans, professionals, community members and local organizations. A mentor who is not paid to be there is worth more than any amount of structured programming.
Seasonal events and showcases
Community projects, performances, family activities and the seasonal events that give a year its shape. The Friday Showcase already does this weekly. This is the same idea, opened up to the whole community.
A scalable training and participation center
Everything above, under one roof, as a larger Adult Training and Community Participation Center designed from the start to be replicated in other communities.
The long view
Build it once, properly, then build it again somewhere else.
The end point is not a bigger Vet Fixer. It is a model that works well enough to be copied: a cafe, a studio, a marketplace, a garden and a classroom, arranged so that a person can move between them as their confidence grows, with real work at the end of it.
Chester County first. If it works here, it should work anywhere, and we would rather hand the blueprint to another community than be the only place that has one.
We are not putting dates on this page that we cannot stand behind. Call and ask where something actually is and you will get a straight answer rather than a launch window.
- Our four authorized services are available today
- The Training Center’s licensing and zoning hearing come first
- Everything on this page follows after that
- Waiting list members hear before anything goes on the website
